60 minutes, $50 (all ages)
Tour offered 2pm, Saturdays, May 14 and July 2
While the apes remain on exhibit, take a rare visit into the night quarters of the gorillas and orangutans. Meet the keepers who take care of the apes, and learn about their natural history in the wild, how we take care of them in the zoo, their diets, and how we provide enrichment for these extremely intelligent creatures, and how operant conditioning teaches the apes to cooperate with their care. The tour will also include the opportunity to make some enrichment items for the apes, to be given to the apes at a later date. Go to the front of the exhibit and the staff will talk about the animal’s behaviors and their individual personalities, and share stories about some of the apes here at the BioPark.
