What are you waiting for?
Covering 64 acres and featuring naturalistic habitats, a freshwater pond, a stunning band shell, snack bars, a restaurant and gift shops, the Rio Grande Zoo will provide you with days of amazement, entertainment and sheer fun.
A walk through the zoo is approximately 2.25 miles, introducing you to a variety of animals and species native to Asia, Africa, Indonesia, Australia, and the Americas. Popular species include seals and sea lions, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, elephants, polar bears, giraffes, hippos, camels, tamarins, koalas, Mexican wolves, mountain lions, jaguars, zebras, white rhinos and Komodo dragons.

The Rio Grande Zoo was founded along the banks of the Rio Grande in 1927. In 1996, it was incorporated into the Albuquerque Biological Park along with the Albuquerque Aquarium and Rio Grande Botanic Garden. For additional information, call 311 or visit http://www.cabq.gov/biopark/zoo/index.html

Same day
combo tickets to visit all three facilities are sold until noon every
day. Combo tickets include unlimited train rides on the Rio Line, which
travels between the Aquarium/Garden and the Zoo, and the Thunderbird
Express, which makes a loop around the Zoo. Combo tickets may be
purchased exclusively from cashiers located at the front entrances of
the Aquarium, Botanic Garden and Zoo.

Park Hours
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Sunday.
9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Saturday and Sunday, June through August.
Please Note:
- Tickets are sold every day from 9 am to one-half hour before closing. No one is admitted after this time.
- The Rio Grande Zoo is closed on January 1, Thanksgiving Day and December 25.
- The Zoo Train and Rio Line are closed on Mondays. No combo tickets to the facilities will be sold on Mondays. Trains run as usual Tuesday through Sunday.
Reciprocal Park Discounts
Half-price admission to the Zoo is available to members of other zoos, aquariums and botanic gardens from across the country. However, not all institutions offer reciprocal agreements. Please call in advance to confirm that your membership offers such a discount.

| Disabilities If you have a disability and require special assistance when you visit the Zoo, please call (505) 768-2000 or 311 (NM Voice/Relay or 711), preferably with three days advance notice. Wagons and Wheelchairs Wheelchairs and wagon rentals are available at The Garden Shop (to your right as you enter the Garden gate). Wheelchairs are available free of charge; wagon rentals range in cost from $5 to $7. |
Bicycle Racks Bicycle racks are located near the entrance. Pets Pets are not permitted on zoo grounds. Service Animal Certified service animals are permitted in the public areas of all BioPark facilities. |
Location and Directions
The Rio Grande Zoo is located at 903 Tenth Street SW, which is south of Lead and Coal and north of Bridge Blvd.
From I-25 head west on the Lead or Coal exits to Tenth Street, and south on Tenth Street to the Zoo parking lots. If you exit I-25 on Bridge, take Bridge west to Eighth Street. Turn north on Eigth Street and west on Lead or Coal to Tenth Street. Take Tenth Street south to the Zoo.

Two free parking lots are located on the west side of Tenth Street, adjacant to the zoo's entrance.
